Hi, changed both dash bulbs in speedo etc cluster with 3w 12v capless, one old bulb worked ok but was 5w now none work, I have tried the dimmer switch both ways with no difference with the lights on and ignition on. Any ideas?

What about the other dash illumination bulbs, such as ashtrays, heater controls, etc? Do they work?
It won't be a fuse unless your right hand parking lights, front and rear, and your number plate lights are also out.

Just checked, everything lights up bar fog light sidelight panel and dash cluster. Gauges have power and are correct just no illumination. Yes number plate lamps are working. Bit puzzeling as the holders were turned to horizontal and locked in place, do these bulbs blow by fingers touching glass? Can't remember if that's right or not!

Foglight/light switch panel bulb comes on with the ignition, and is separate from the rest of the dash illumination.
Bulbs in the cluster don't need any handling precautions.
Short answer is that there is no obvious reason why your lights don't work if everything is installed correctly.
Check that the wires on the base of the capless bulbs you fitted are lying where they should on the glass base, and probably a good idea if you tested each bulb assembly on a battery before fitting them into the cluster.
The solder that fixes the sockets on the back of the cluster has been known to crack if the plugs have been removed roughly at any time, such as failing to lift the locking bar first, but it would be unusual if just the lights were affected and nothing else.
