Hi I have loads of questions about my car but to start with I brought a 325i turbo e30 knowing who done the conversions but have lost contact with the guy so know I'm needing information I don't know where to start ! I know it runs mega squirt de compression plate t3\t4 turbo and that's it really wanted to know what bhp I can run assuming internals are standard , also being that it runs on mega squirt is there a programme I can buying so I can link to my laptop to mess around with setting like run eco or changing mapping for track days any info would be very helpful as I'm not mechanically minded cheers
You can run upto 400hp with arp head studs.
The m20 runs low enough compression for boost so don't know why a compression plate has been used.
Where abouts are you based? There may be someone close who has e30 turbo experience

Unless the bottom end has had a refresh I'd always be cautious about how much boost I'd run even with a ARP's and decomp plate or multi layer head gasket

I know this car, The engine is 100% bog standard, and IMO is in need of a re fresh. No decomp plate is fitted infact the head has not been off since the turbo was added, boost was set low with all this in mind. It is not silly quick as it is but it did show my e36 328 a clean pair of heals

Where can I get the engine strengthened so I can can run it more power and what sort of money am I looking at ? Don't want massive power I was thinking 320bhp ish to keep up or beat and m3 if that is realistic

What brakes would I need. ?
Depends on the use - road car or track car.
IMO, for a road car the standard sized brakes are fine, albeit uprated discs, pads and fluid. Maybe with some braided lines. You have no real extra weight to worry about, so stopping the car from normal road speeds will be no more effort with 300bhp or the standard 170bhp.
Yes you can argue that with more bhp you can accelerate faster, so will be stopping from higher speeds, but even with fast road driving you won't be on and off the brakes like you would on track - keep in mind you shouldn't be over 60 or 70mph
I ran the heavy S50 conversion with standard E30 brakes for a little while with no more real brake fade than with M20 fitted when driven hard.
I also found the insurance company didn't like my brake upgrades, they preferred the 300bhp conversion on standard brakes

if the engine is totally standard it is capable of 400 -500 bhp but i wouldnt go no more than 1 bar with standard internals
300 bhp is more than capable and 300bhp in a e30 will see off most m3s and most other cars too
mines running about 380- 400bhp and that scares me ive pushed porsch gt3s and ferraris down the road which is funny
a refresh of the engine will cost anothing between 500 -3000 depends what you do to it you dont need to strengthen any of the bottom end for a reliable 300bhp
as for clutch that will start to slip at about 300bhp so a paddle or a sach pressure plate but cant remeber the number
you cant buy programs for ms you get some one to map it unless you know what ya doing map it ya self does it have wideband ?
there are a few guys out there that know ms i use one guy thats from spalding he knows his shit

Cheers for all the feedback I want to keep up or leave behind e36/e46 m3 to start with think I'm gunna find out what's been done to it first then if running. 300bhp on a standard engine is okay then off to get it rolling roaded !
being a convertible will the chassis need strengthening At this power? Ahh got so many questions haha I'm going to upgrade discs And pads soon as ! If I was at 300bhp and it does go bang I think il just start with a fresh engine ! Where can you buy turbos that fit the e30 as mine is ment to be Chinese and shit but still does pull really well :/

What? You can download Tunerstudio for free and use that to tune the all of the engine parameters.ross2009 wrote:you cant buy programs for ms you get some one to map it unless you know what ya doing map it ya self does it have wideband ?

You need to pay a registration fee if you want to be able to use all the bells and whistles, but the basic free program can do everything you need it to.

He asked " is there a programme I can buying so I can link to my laptop to mess around with setting like run eco or changing mapping for track days". That sounds to me like he wants software.ross2009 wrote:yeah I know you can he's on about buying maps not the software but if this guy is asking about it you think he's going to be able to map it him self don't think so
But yeah, based on some of the questions he's asking, he's definitely not ready to start playing with the engine parameters.
