Hi! This is my first post, I'm a recent onwner of a e30 325i 1988 touring. Today I decided to fix the dash lights which arent working, turns out it isnt just a case of changing bulbs, I removed the cluster and there not broken.
I've taken out the headlight switch to check the mechanism where it rotates to power up the dash lights but it isnt broken, however I found some mystery cut wires, mainly one which is red&grey (and obviously with a brown one) which I think goes to the cluster illuminating lights but not sure where it goes into?
As well as the dash lights its also the heater, light control, gear stick and ashtray lights dont work, however the window switch lights do, is this all linked?
Thanks
Fred

Thanks for the speedy replies.
I've check fuse 23, not been blown.
The grey/red is cut right where you say willnz, and the adjuster doesnt work so assume its that.
Thanks for posting the wiring diagram, shame there so many grey/red wires!
I'll check the glove box light, thanks.
So the cluster, heater, gear stick, headlight illuminating lights are all on the same loop?
I'm going to remove the aftermarket radio and check the wiring of that too.
If all else fails, I'll take it to an expert!
Thanks again

Headlight switch should light up with the ign on,so you can find the switch in the dark.....I have used the redundant headlight adjuster fitting to alter my cars so that the switch lights up when the headlight switch is operated.
Just two bulbs behind the heater control panel.
Seperate bulbs for the ashtrays and lighter socket.

Interesting thread. I have the same problem with my cab, 0 dash/interior lights working. They did work at one point but stopped around when I refitted the stereo. I'll have to check all my wires as the fuses are fine.
