Is there any difference in a 2 or 3 piece exhaust system (except for the obvious different amount of pieces!)?
Ive got a 325i and my system needs replacing, just wondered what to go for?

Also, what are the 3 pieces? Downpipe, centre and rear? Or does a 3 piece system have 3 boxes under the car? Im confused....

Hi mate, the 3 piece system, as you say is Downpipe, mid section and backbox.
the two piece has downpipe to midbox as one piece then a backbox running from roughly the middle of the car back.
the bores/designs of the system are the same as far as I can tell, so no advantage of fitting one or the other.
I'd get under the car and have a look, my 2 pice only took 30 mins to fit the backbox to
I'd replace with the same system thats already on the car, if you want a "sports" backbox, I'm sure some of the guys will be able to advise

Thanks for that, in which case, mine has a 3 piece, its either the downpipe os centre section that needs replacing, I have a scorpion backbox on their at the mo but might change it for the ernst box ive got sitting in the shed as the scorpion is upswept and makes a real mess of my back lights!

Yup, on a 2-peice, the downpipe & centre section are one bit, on a 3-peice they're seperate. The back sections aren't the same though.
In most cases, you can swap between 2 & 3 peice systems, but not always. Have a look here for details;
