hey all, first time poster, got hold of a 1987 320i m20 prefacelift with jetronic bout six months ago, been at menders since (getting total rebuild done on cheap, when the dude has time basically)- am getting the car back soon and looking at beefing up the engine a bit. am going to do the 325i throttle body conversion plus fuel idle valve and inlet boot - but want a bit more if possible.
bought a chip from ChippedUK on ebay before i realised it was jetronic - btw thats a story in itself, told me he was sending me a remapped ecu instead which i still havent got, tried to give me a cock and bull story bout
the package being returned to him and stuff, but is he correct? looking at the tech posts on other threads, is this just bulls*it?? or can jetronic ecus be programmed?
another (final!) query i'd like to find out is, if i go thru with all the throttle mods, etc, what would happen if i stuck a 323i or 325i ecu from the same jetronic type systems and engine type (m20) onto the 320i engine? would it actually work, or would the timing be off, or would i blow the engine? ecus are a bit of a grey area for me!!!!!!!!
Jetronic 320i ecu upgradable?

Jetronic can be mapped but gains will be limited , most require soldering as the Eprom is surface mounted not in a socket
Do not use any ECU but the one designed for your vehicle, that would be an expensive mistake fella.
all 325s are motronic so thats not an option either I'm afraid
you can swop to motronic from a facelift 320 and see some nice improvements but ts a lot of work including a complete engine loom swop.

Theo, your car should have an 073 ECU, unless it was a 320 and had the B25 mill swopped in later
easiest way to tell, Dizzy driven off camshaft= Motronic
Dizzy on passenger side under intake=Jetronic

would there be anywhere else that would redo the jetronic ecu that wasn't ChippedUK and didn't cost an arm and a leg ;) , will give Jayson a couple more days to come up with the goods, but ain't laying my house on it... him and me are a saga in itself!
