A bit of help please my head is fried

Car side of the loom I have a red/yellow wire, good. Engine side I have a brown :?

I have read up all the warnings and cannot find this scenario, its says engine side will have red/yellow, or be empty. It then says "engine side brown wire pin 20 is only very early looms" or words to that effect. So what do I do? Add a wire from DME blue/red wire to the engine side pin 20.

Ahhhgh :D

Brown wire is only found in the ENGINE loom plug of early cars. Later cars will either have no connection to pin 20 of the ENGINE loom or a red/yellow wire connected to it.
A brown (earth) wire can be found connected to pin 20 on the BODY loom on some much later cars.
Alternatively, the pin 20 on the BODY loom may be empty or have a red/yellow wire connected.
The only combination that causes serious damage is when the ENGINE loom has a red/yellow and the BODY loom has a brown. In this case the brown wire must be removed from pin 20 of the BODY loom.
The other combination that causes (less serious) problems is when the BODY loom has a red/yellow and the ENGINE loom does not. In this case the ABS will not work, and a wire has to be added in the ENGINE loom between either of the pin 87s of the DME relay and pin 20.

I have a wire in the ENGINE side, it is not red/yellow. I think it is brown, could be red (I'm colour blind :o: )

I Have cut this, left a tail in the plug and joined a piece to it ready to link to pin 87 of the DME, I was about to do it then read the sticky again, and got a bit flustered :D

Thanks

As above, I have the car running now and the ABS light is on, so this would make sense that I need a power feed to the ABS.

Therefore, I believe I need to link the wire from 87 at the DME relay, to the engine side of pin 20, it will then be conected to body side of pin 20, a red/yellow, and power the abs?

It appears that the loom I am using is one of the very rare early ones with a brown at pin 20 on the engine side.

Many thanks Brian, I do like to avoid car related smoke at all costs, but with wiring especially :D

Thanks Again
