Does anyone know how to remove these please? I am stripping my coupe on the search for rust and these pipes look a bit "scabby" in a couple of places, it seems a shame to leave them now I have the underneath clear. Not sure if they are welded in or just pushed in place and I can't see any obvious brackets.
Thanks in advance guys.
Regards
Kevin.
Edit.. Any tips on dropping the rear axle off the studs in the body? The bush is stuck on one side, and I can't quite get it to drop down - I have destroyed a bearing puller already!
Handbrake cable "pipes" removal.

I have never removed a handbrake cable guide,I would guess that it's welded in.
The beam bush inner will have corroded to the body mount, you need to support the beam so that it is reasonably square and then attack the remains of the rubber part of the bush,I have used fire, others suggest a decent sized hole cutter. Then something like a long half inch drive socket extension up the centre hole and bash it from side to side until it gives in.
If the diff is still in place it will help with balance if you remove it first.

Handbrake guide tube is an integral part of the shell, welded in place, although they are fairly easy to break loose if someone's a bit too rough removing handbrake cables.
The 'studs' that the beam is on are removable though. They are taper headed pins, and the top ends of them are located in sealant filled holes under the rear seat cushion. Remove the seat cushion, lay a dust sheet or similar over the holes (to prevent the pin shooting around the inside of the car like shrapnel), and drive the pins up and out from underneath. Don't damage the end of the threads!
Once the bolts are out, push a steel bar through the alloy bush in the beam mount, and pull it from side to side to force them loose.

She's off - thanks....
A bit of Plusgas and persuasion..... Thanks to you both for your input.
I am going to have another look at the tubes for the handbrake cables, they are a bit corroded in a couple of places but I am going to have a little prod at them to see if they are salvageable before I start cutting them out - I have enough rust replacement on my hands ATM....

From what i remember when a friend had the same issue with the beam, the studs are still available from bmw so no panic if you do damage one.

Cool, thanks.... The list of parts that I need gets longer by the day.... Looking forward to the day that it gets back out on the road already (it's been in storage for over 2 years now!).HairyScreech wrote:From what i remember when a friend had the same issue with the beam, the studs are still available from bmw so no panic if you do damage one.
