How difficult is it to replace the rear steel pipes that run along the top of the rear beam, cos the garage has quoted me Ԛ£200 for it, but i don't want to launch in to doing it my self cos I havent got all my tools here.

worst case its a tank drop mate
they are poss with the tank in but pain in the arse
but wouldnt think a garage would struggle as much with decent ramps etc

My garage did 2 new front to rear brake pipes (inc over the rear beam ) for Ԛ£70 so i'd go get another estimate TBH mate-Ԛ£200 seems very steep to me...

Right that does it, I know it is a simple job and it may be fiddly but I'm going back to the garage, it's bloody outrageous.

I had the two front from the master cyclinder, and the rear to the flexi pipes replaced. Not the small ones that run down the trailing arm, as they were fine.

OK got the car back. He said did I know where did them (I said my bro had had them done as he's got a cab) and I said yes and he gave me the keys and didn't even try to haggle - he did say they were really busy this week though.
Right I have got the car back, and he didn't charge me for the mot as i suppose they assume I'm going to take it back to get the cert, I could take it some where else but it has just occoured that the ne fangled computer mot system should scupper that idea. Oh well I'll get some quote, or do it my self. Might hire some ramps and get the garage to cut and flare some pipes for me then do it my self.
So the question is has any one done them them selves? Its the ones from the T piece by the diff to the trailing arms.

There are two sets. One set from the T piece to the small flexi that go over the rear sub frame, one set that are fitted on the trailing arm, its normally the ones from the T piece to flexi that need replacing...

Good luck
you'll need it. Ive been waiting for BM to get the new one in that i needed because i snapped the old one in the end.
At the moment i've got the trailing arm off for something else so thought i'd replace the rubber hoses and now wish i hadn't bothered.
To get to the 11mm nut on the metal pipe i ended up buying a long 11mm spanner just to be able to reach it from in front of the diff, then couldn't get a 14mm spanner to stay on the hose side
so cut that as it was being replaced only to find out that a 14mm socket was to short
(back to halfrauds, again
)
bought a deep 14mm socket and then found out the 11mm nut wasn't up to the job and rounded that off
eventualy bent the bracket that holds the pipe at a right angle so i could just about get a pair of mole grips in and undone the union
Only to find i'd splitt the metal pipe
So now i've got the new pipe to the T junction (which comes un-shaped from BM) and have to work out a way of being able to tighten it up because it's above the diff and cant' get a socket on it and no room for a spanner.
Looks like the diff may have to be lowerd
Anyway Widge it's a piece off piss. It's only taken me two weeks so far.
