Anyone who has one will tell you there great, the rest of the homo's on here will run you out of town for mentioning such things.
I've never driven with one so can't say, I have one in my garage from a breaker that I will be putting on whilst I refurb my LSD.
If you like going sideways and buying tyres then get the welder out, if you want to feel safe but have a bit of tail out fun from time to time save up for an LSD.

Is your ride a slammed, stanced, euro'd drifter wannabe? Have you ever considered 'rusting' some panels? Have you ever fitted stickers of large text meaningless words to your car?
If so, you ought to just crack out the Mig and get welding

How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

1) there's a language filter that automatically changes some words
2) this isn't heated, this is Zone banter. When it gets heated here, it looks a lot worse than this.
3) there are no insults in this thread aimed directly at you. But the topic has been discussed at length, with no conclusion. The only thing we all agree on is that Welded Diffs are a Zone Taboo; the First Rule of Welded Diffs is, Do Not Talk About Welded Diffs.
4) We're all really friendly really

Me got welded diff now !
, i faced facts ! The car is no show winner and didnt wanna go sideways with an open and i was driving around for 6 months with an open and now i have a welded i wish i done it a long tine ago .
The car does drive a little different but tbh nothing horrible , just the odd granny starring in morrisons car park when the diff gets a bit of back lash and wheel skipping !
I use mine daily m50b25 welded diff , the car is practically a skid car , ill be fitting a hydro soon too . Theres plenty of time for me to have a minter but right now its not cash feesable !
Get a spare diff change the bush and weld it up whats the worst that can happen lol

Errm doesnt necessarily want to skid everything its more like i wanna try n skid it all , but the ol gal comes out very easy !
Like i say i use it daily with no probs but it is abit different to having an open or lsd.
Many people say its gay ect ect but if it goes into a lamppost ill be peeved but i wont cry lol

Depends how much you value the comfort of driving your car at low speeds (parking, reversing etc). Makes little difference to an lsd at "normal" driving speed but can be noisy and jerky when you go slower.
But as mentioned, dont be under the impression its cool to have a welded diff, it is complete pikey behaviour...

The "worst that can happen" is that you get involved in a road traffic collision where serious injury occurs to a third party or passengers in your own car, and this "modification" is discovered by an investigating VOSA officer.BATTS91 wrote: whats the worst that can happen lol

I'm fairly sure your insurance company would promptly abandon you to your fate, whether or not you claim to have declared this mod. to them.

Why wouldn't they pay out if it's been declared?

Because an insurance company will look for any way they can to avoid paying out a large claim, and you will have dealt them a very high ranking card, which their far more expensive lawyers than you can afford will exploit to the full.driftwood wrote:Why wouldn't they pay out if it's been declared?

Modifying a car so its wheels break traction at every corner, hmmmmmmm
Last time I was in court over an accident the prosecution couldnt wait to bring up the fact that id fitted uprated brakes (standard brakes from a 325i actually) "so I could go faster" in their words. Declared or not they will still bum you as much as possible
If you have an LSD already why not just get the nice man called Gareth on here to fit some new clutch plates, and/or modify the ramp angles to give more lock?
Gotta be better than being a mig mug.
Ive had the diff on my track car uprated to 75% lock and it will sometimes lock/drag a wheel slightly at slow corners, why you would want anymore lock than that on a road car I dont know..

£200 - £300, depends how much you can do yourself really, if you strip the LSD pack out and send just that off its obviously less work for the man to do

I had a welder on my old battered e30, was fun to drive with and had no problems as a daily. It does squeak in low revs when trying to turn.
