Depends on how competent you are, tools etc.

If your on your axle stands with limited tools I'd allow a day.

Otherwise on a ramp with plenty of tools it's only a couple of hours to do one.

its a bit long...

exhaust off, heat shield off prop bolts off, crossmember bolt, gearbox bolts starter, need a clutch centering tool, it can be done in a day at home,

need to make sure the jack is good though... benching a gbox on the floor up to the engine isnt something id enjoy, and if it drops off the jack... id just get it done at a garage

I have done it myself...as stated it is a bit of work but you can do it yourself in one day.
Make sure you mark the prop shaft carefully before taking it off/apart.

You need a trolley-jack to take the weight of the gearbox so you can drop it or raise it to the correct height.

You also need the correct Torx female sockets and a long extension and universal to get to the Torx bolts on top of the bell-housing.

New clutch kit should come with a plastic centering tool hopefully. :)

There is a clutch guide in the Wiki:

http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... ing_Clutch

but it is biased towards having the engine out at the same time.
