Hello all, hopefully somebody can help me out with this one!

I'm currently in the process of removing the exhaust manifold from my 91 325i Touring, because the gasket/heat shield is knackered plus there's a broken stud in there.

I've finally managed to get all the manifold bolts off, and have got 3 of the 4 manifold/down pipe bolts off. But the 4th one is tucked away right to the rear of the manifold, close to the block.

Herein lies the problem - I can't see any way of getting a socket or a spanner in there because its so tight.

Any tips?

The 4 stud type downpipe is doable from underside with several extensions and a UJ (universal Joint) in the line as well.
I normally use a 1/2 drive ratchet, UJ and extensions for this job to get the leverage required to undo the little ****

I would tighten the manifold to the head again with a couple of nuts, just while you undo the downpipe nuts, so it is secure.
