i'm currently doing the 067 e46 rack swap onto a manual rack e30, and it seems a bit of a mish mash as to how people manual the rack, i THINK my options are:

1) just drain all the fluid, and dust seal (but not sir seal) the pipe unions - supposedly can make the rack jerky and possibly stiffer.

2) pipe up the rack to itself and leave it full of fluid - not sure if this would be any less stiff than above as you'd still have the fluid to move?

3) pipe up the rack to a small fluid res - any better than 2?

4) gut the rack, remove the pas fluid seal from inside, then grease it up and put bolts in all the unions - technically now a proper manual rack, so no problems?

my mind seems to say 4) is the best option, but very few people seem to do it - why? any opinions on the above or how you have done yours greatly appreciated!

No dude, not close. Taking it to work and going to get it track ready over winter.

Got most stuff here to convert to pas if you need to borrow it.
