auto-maual some quick questions

right got all the auto stripped off this afternoon and new flywheel on, couple a questions

i have two diffs, 325i auto one and a 318i manual one, are these both the same or iff not which is best for acceleration.

are the auto and manual starter motors different, just the auto one looks brand new and my manual one well doesnt

are the flywheel sensors (pre facelift 87 with the sensors) same from the auto box just ive pulled them out box and havnt disconected them from loom yet do i need to?

what wiring do i need to do

fianally anyone need a perfectly smooth auto box or any other bits? free to collect north east

The diff to use is the 325i one I cant guess what ratio it will be probably 3.91 but it varies. At least the thing will be strong enough, unlike the 318i item.

What kind of starters have you got? Big or small? The smaller facelift ones will work on pre or post but the larger ones only on pre face, which brings me onto the flywheel, does the one you fitted have the pick up tab on it for the sensors?

I'm not sure if the sensors are the same, but I would have thought they are, a check on realoem.com will confirm, there need to be holes in the box bell housing for the sensors to go, is it a pre face box?

Wiring, reverse light loom will probably be attached to the box, bypass the start inhibitor (yellow and black wires behind the glove box.

In that case the box should have holes in it for the pick up sensors.

You fitted a spigot bearing?

yeah ive put spigot bearing in tonight, new manual box has the sensors in just the auto ones are still connected and i know they work so wondered if i could just put them into the holes in the manual box

My M10 conversion has thrown up a few issues.

The spigot/input shaft bearing that goes into the crankshaft didn't rear it's head till the other day.
The starter motors on mine are the same
The diffs were the same between auto and manual as far as my method of counting goes
You will need to bridge the inhibitor switch, and do something for the reverse lights, although reverse lights aren't an MOT fail

forget my text reply mate i thought your car was a 320i auto previously so i thought both diffs would be 4.10 ratio's,the 318i one is deffo 4.10 .

i'm not sure what diff comes with a 325i auto,maybe it's a 3.91 as suggested ????
