Hey guys, I'm think I know what it's likley to be but I thought I'd ask incase I'm over looking something:
94 e36M42 engine 157k on it - no idea of service history.
Since fitting this I've noticed an ever increasing rattle when the engine is cold, it is rpm related and is noisiest when engine braking. It goes away within 5mins of start.
My thought is a lubrication issue or something related to the chain/tensioner? Any other options, I can post a recording of it if needed.

The solution won't apply to you unfortunately, cheeseman. Jos's engine is a chain-driven M42, while yours is a belt-driven M20.
