Car has developed (rather suddenly) a loud speed-related knocking which sounds to be coming from about half way along the centre tunnel.
Does this sound like a failed centre bearing?
Schadenfreude - the German's haven't got a word for that.

Could be that, or a loose propshaft, or worn out rubber coupling. You'll need to get underneath the car and waggle the prop about to see where it's coming from.

Attend to it quickly, because you don't want the prop to be coming loose at speed. It does happen; I heard of a Mercedes CLK that was flipped off the road because of it!

I'm not going driving it anywhere until it's fixed. It sounds like there's some of that there thrashing about going on underneath.

I have the same issue but its in the early stages and only happens when really putting the foot down. I ordered a new centre bearing and prop coupling from ECP via the zoner Meatballs 82 just last week and it came it at about £40 delivered to my door.

Still not had the time to fit them yet though.

When you say 'prop coupling', do you mean the rubber 'guibo' where the front flange bolts to the output flange of the 'box?
