Can a 17mm ring spanner be used for the 2 top dif cover bolts to remove the dif Backplate?
Or is it a case where the dif has to be dropped to acsess them? I can get to the rest but not these 2. Why the fcuk did they put them there?!!!! :x

are you jacking the car up from the beam or the diff ?

the backing plate is easily removed with diff in situ normally, :?

Mick... With the car in the air and an axle stand under the beam I cannot get a socket on the top 2. The top left one is even more in acsessable than the top right. There is the ridge that the dif mount carrier is welded to that runs across the width of the Car,,, it is this that is in my way!

Use 2 ring spanners.

One on the bolt and the other through the C part as more leverage. No socket will fit with beam on the car, but as mick says you can change the gasket with the diff on the beam.

You shouldnt have anything propping the car under the beam, this is why you cant get at the bolt, put the axle stands under the sills, or under the beam bush bolts and the diff will drop slightly with the hanger bolt out.
Recently renewed beam bushes can end up being pushed out of the beam by sitting the car on axle stands under the beam, I changed a beam recently that had twisted due to being unknowingly driven with the bushes hanging out

How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.
