Hey guys, gonna fit some 6x9's into the e30 tonight. just wondered if there was anything you guys suggest instead of just butchering the metal that runs across the parcel shelf. i was going to do away with the stupid bar's that run across the back and fit a boot lifter.

i would say don't cut up the car.. you can get some great custom fit 5 1/4's that will be a straight fit, and you can use the old covers too to keep them covered up - i have some high powered alpines on my shelf and the rest of the world thinks they are standard pioneer ones because of the covers:)

just my opinion though, it is your car:)

Cheers mate, i was thinking of making an mdf box to raise them up as opposed to cutting them and sinking them in

Dont fit 6x9's its a common school boy error, your front speakers should always be bigger/more powerful than your rears. A good car setup should be focused around the driver not the rear passengers.

If you have a sub or are planning on a sub forget about it the idea of 6x9's totally! This because the subwoofer will cancel the notes that the 6x9 produces so what is the point of buying them and wasting money?

I suggest that you look into buying some component speakers for the front with separate tweeters or coaxial.Component is more expensive but your do get better sq. Coxial is cheaper but instead results in bad sound quality.

ive got small ground zero's in the footwells and pioneer component tsa-6903s 6x9s in the back, and a blaupunkt head unit, that setup is bangin! i had a sub but it just sounded stupid so i got rid of it,

the sub just vibrates the boot lid and sounds retarded, ive got to that age 22 where i want to hear the lyrics and decent sound quality and not just a bassline,

the headunit is a major factor in sound quality, ive had loads of different models and makes, kenwood - not bad, sony - had power in xplod but sounded pretty shite and poor qual, alpine - was really good but too expensive and accessorys are extra, jvc - good entry level

blaupunkt mp68 - best all rounder, no flashing disco lights, usb wire to hide away can connect to ipod etc, btooth hfree, and excellent quality and power even at top whack lyrics are crisp! and cheap!

you can get 6x9ns in the back ther are boxes on ebay i got sloped boxes so they go forward with the rear screen they sit just behind the headrests and i also padded the boxes to prevent vibration and it works, i also cut them down a bit so the speakers sit in the original holes a bit and blend in,

you get an excellent bassline when its cranked, front speakers arnt able to deliver the same punch ive just faded the rear speakers down a bit so thers a bit more power going to the fronts and lyrics are heard, 6x9s are for bassline,

word, the 6x9 has such a vast surface area, any sub 'sub-80-100hz' action will cancel or phase out a freestanding 6x9 with astounding results... Your 6x9 needs to be sonically sheilded if you have a sub installed..

this is subjective. depending on your setup, the headunit will be responsible for most of the circumstantial rightness you're experienceing,

As for a sub + 6x9 and component setup, to extract the full potential, you need either a seperate amp for each channel, or a headunit which is capable of delivering each set of frequency ranges at a variable level. So with some unregulated 6x9's unless you want to cream your back seat passengers ears, the frequencies from the mid-upper ranges of a 6x9 at full chat are wasted in terms of the drivers perspective.
