1989 E30 325iT.
Alternator has recently been replaced. Battery terminals are firm on their posts. Alternator belt is OK.
What is the likely problem please?
Ignition lights stay on.

Have you done a charge test to see that your alternator is actually pumping out 13.7-14.4v?

No it's not. Have now been in touch with the supplier of the replacement alternator and another is being sent. Thanks for your help.

Did you check the charge at the battery terminals, or at the alternator? It may be that the alternator is charging fine but there's a break in the wiring, or the wiring is not connected properly. For more info:

First thing to check is that the alternator is being earthed to the engine block properly.
Check for any voltage between the alternator metalwork and the battery negative, or the suspension turret earth terminal.

Hi Brian. There is no voltage between the body of the alternator and the chassis, so the earth connection is OK.
