Hi, newbie here.
Just taken possession of my first ever e30 after wanting one for years. Been driving it a week and have fallen completely in love with it. :D

Its a 1990 320i "more door" saloon thats in relatively good shape. All the electrics work and engine, gears, etc. all good.

A bit of rust in the wheel arches that needs attention but other than that body work is great.

It does however need a new power steering pump and belt. My friend who also has an e30 318i told me to get a e36 pump as they are slightly better for some reason.

Ive been looking on ebay and there seems to be a few types of fitting for the hoses and none of the product description are very helpful.

Does anyone know any specific product codes for pumps that are compatible with my car.

Thanks for any help.

First of all welcome :D

Does your pump definatly need changing? A slipping belt can give some real nasty symptoms through the steering wheel. So I would change the belt first and see how you go (unless the pump is wazing fluid everywhere or knackered in some other way).

If your pump is indeed goosed get the one which was designed for the engine It will fit much better and cause less swearing :D there is no advantage to be gained.

I think that you mate is confusing steering pump with steering rack!
An E36 rack is considered to be an upgrade, but do some searching within our wiki before buying anything.

E30 has at least two differing power steering pumps, these are best replaced with better s/h items that match the type fitted.

yeah, its definitely the pump, had it up in the garage last week and they confirmed it.

I assume I can find the engine number in my owners manual.

I'll check the wiki, cheers.
