hi there,
About 2 years ago I replaced my timing chain, sprockets, guides and tensioner. About a year ago I stripped, cleaned and balanced and rebuilt the engine (everything was still well within tolerances)

She wines like a banshee (from the initial timing kit change).
Can this be normal?

Yep. Every M42 I've done a chain on has had a slight but distinct whine. After I did the first one I was a bit concerned so I asked a master tech where I worked at the time - he said that they just did that - it shouldn't be bad though.
