Just sat here watching wheeler dealers. They are "doing up" some french pile of crud.

They ahve just put a holly carb on it.

It just got me thinking, Years ago my mate converted his Pug 205 gti to twin carbs with a pretty good effect, Has anyone ever converted an e30 to carbs and does it make any decent gains in performance?

What French car is it? Normally, Holleys are mostly used on V8 engines.

Some folk have fitted triple Weber twin-choke DCOEs on the M20 engine. They look great, but I expect the fuel consumption is lousy unless they're very carefully set up, and regularly kept in tune.

It was a renault alpine 2.7.

Carbs are only worth the extra fuel if you are getting a lot of extra power IMHO.

Whatever a carb. can do, a throttle body + ECU can always do far better.
Carbs. belong in museums and historic racing series.

True. The Motronic injection system on the E30 is usually superb if in good order, so you're unlikely to see any gains by fitting carbs.

The only real advantage carbs have is instant throttle response, whereas computer-controlled injection tends to have a bit of throttle lag, as the computer needs time to work out the inputs from the various sensors and give an appropriate output.

Ah yes, those bastard things. PRV V6 with two carbs, one single choke and one twin choke. Only the French.
