I've checked over the wiki to actually get the job done, seems straight forwards so no problem with that. I'm curious though how can you tell that there's enough oil in the diff?

I've just purchased an LSD to put on the car and would like to make sure it's done properly and set for a while. What's the best oil to use as I've been directed to buying some Castrol 80w-90 stuff.
Oh and how much does it actually take (And where do you fill it up :o: )?

Cheers.

Not that it really bothers me but "Castrol B373 is not recommended to be used in road vehicles." keeps creeping up in them listings.

What's the recommended oil by BMW or most commonly used here on the Zone?

When the diff is fitted, and the car set on level ground the oil should be filled up to the filler hole (top one), I would suggest changing the oil in your diff so you know its done, before you drain the oil make sure you undo the filler hole first as the plug can get quite stuck.

The BMW spec oil is Castrol Syntrax LSD oil 75w 140 (it was called SAF XJ), this is the one I use, you can get it from Opie Oils they advertise on here. Last time I payed about £25 i think for 2 litres you need 1.7 litres.
