iv had my inlet manifold off and replaced and im not sure if it was there before or not but iv now got a weird hunting at idle and after discussing this with some who had a similar problem it could be worn or missing orings around the pipe that is between the inlet manifold and the bottom of the block items 9-12 in the picture above.
Iv sourced some new washers and orings etc could someone confirm for me where exactly do i put the washers, orings etc are they fitted in the inlet manifold end and the block end or what???? cheers in advance

They go on the pipe at the bottom of the spring.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

it lists 2 washers and 2 orings so which order do you fit them and is there any gasket fitted between the bottom of the inlet manifold and the pipe

It's been a while since I did mine but IIRC it's 1 O ring & 1 washer on the bottom & 1 O ring & 1 washer on the manifold end but thats as much as I can remember.

That's right, the spring presses down on the washer.
Easy way to re-assemble is to compress the spring with a couple of tie-wraps,assemble to the block, then slide the manifold on,locate the top of the tube and finally slice the tie-wraps.

Make sure the O rings and the recess into which they fit are lubricated with a drop of oil before assembling.

a useful post because I'm in the middle of taking the head off on my motor and wasn't expecting to find this pipe thing attached to the inlet manifold...
When i dismantled it, looking in the tube was like looking inside a jar of salad cream.
So my question is, does the mayo inside this tube signify an expected by-product of a blown cylinder head gasket, or does it point to a different prob altogether?

when i did mine i replaced everything and it wasnt too exspensive one thing i did find i thought it would then pop up into the manifold on its own but after a quick twist it went further up into the manifold even with a new spring
Bring all the bits and if i manage to make it might give it a go while its still light

blown gasket/cracked head
Good (in a perverse sort of way), that's what I thought it was, hence half way through replacing head with a spare.
Sounds like this pipe thing is a bit of a saga though....

Pipe is part of the crankcase breather system,so it is not unusual to find it full of mayo....the bloody stuff has to accumulate somewhere...
As I posted ages ago further up,compress the spring with a couple of tie wraps, this aids the re-build!
