So I went to drive home from work the other week and found that my indicators have stopped working completely. Even the light on the instrument panel fails to light.
However, all the indicators (both fronts, both rears and both front wings) work perfectly when I push the hazard button.
Has this happened to anyone? Is it a switch or something in the steering column?

Check fuse 4, and if it is blown, and the car is post '88, check that the glovebox light is assembled properly and fitted with a bulb.
The other common problem, which you may now have as well, is a faulty hazard warning switch, which refuses to switch back to 'normal' indicators after being used for the first time for years. A quick strip down, clean up, and reassembly cures it.
