Dodgy reverse light switch?

On a manual its a switch on the gearbox which is known to fail, not sure on autos.
Part 19 in the pic.

Completely different on autos - the switch is on the selector inside the car, not the gearbx.
Does the 'R' on the gear indicator (or any of the other letters) line up with the gear you are in?

Pity! I was fairly confident that you'd say no, indicating that the engine and gearbox mounts were past their best and the power plant wasn't sitting quite where it should. The linkage between the lever and gearbox is adjustable, but if it hasn't been played with before, shouldn't need adjusting.
Pull out the brush plate by the gearlever, then the two self tapping screws to remove the rest of the gear lever surround. You should now be looking at a two pin plug and socket with a green/white and blue/yellow wire, which is where the reverse light switch wiring on the body loom plugs into the wiring to the socket on the selector block.
Not unknown for wiring around here to get caught up in the selector mechanism and get damaged.
To see any further, you'll have to first remove the rear console, then the front one.
