Hi Folks,
Folowed the wiki to reset the service lights on the cabby. Its got the Pacman style diagnostic plug under the bonnet.
So following the wiki I bridged the pins 1 and 7 with a piece of wire, turned the ignition on (not starting the car), for 10 seconds. removed the wire and started the car but no joy.
I know this worked when I did it last year, but not sure if I'm missing something or possibly a SI board issue.
Currently it has 1 green light, the clock symbol and the word inspection lit up.
All other instruments work fine and when you only turn on the electrics all of the green lights are working.

Wiki says "With the wire in place, turn the ignition on for 5-10 seconds. Turn off, and remove the wire."Rtaylor2208 wrote: So following the wiki I bridged the pins 1 and 7 with a piece of wire, turned the ignition on (not starting the car), for 10 seconds. removed the wire and started the car but no joy.

Sorry, yes I did turn off the ignition before removing the wire.
What I wasn't sure about is, should the car be started whilst the connection is bridged or just to the first turn which turns on the electrics?

Tried several times but no luck. Also tried with both the engine running and not.

Go to the second position. Not the third.Rtaylor2208 wrote:Sorry, yes I did turn off the ignition before removing the wire.

This is why I use the proper tool for the job.
It has a switch to select oil or inspection re-set,a little light that comes on when it's live and goes out when it's finished.
Ign should be on(dash lights on)but engine not running.

I am not sure what the wiki says but a better way is to ground pin 7, i.e short piece of wire between pin 7 and the car body/metallic part of engine (i personally bridge pin 11 and 7).
do this with the ignintion OFF, then with the ground in place turn the ingnition to RUN (i.e so that the ingition lights come on) wait several seconds and the green lights should come on. turn off and on and wait again and the oil service light shoudl go out too.
if this does not happen you have not found pin 7, or your SI batteries are flat.
out of interest is yours the smaller (approx 3cm diameter) and earlier diagnostic plug or the later larger one (approx 5cm in diameter), what year is your car?

All sorted, it wouldn't work from pins 11 and 7 or 1 and 7. But worked with 19 and 7. So all set.
Thanks
Thanks

That's probably because pin 19 IS the earth pin!Rtaylor2208 wrote:All sorted, it wouldn't work from pins 11 and 7 or 1 and 7. But worked with 19 and 7. So all set.

Who told you it was pin 1? That's the signal to the ignition coil.
I always recommend that you use pin 7 (middle of pacman's mouth) and an earth somewhere on the body or the engine, so that you don't get the wrong pin!

In that case, the wiki is wrong! Earth possibly was pin 1 on early cars (it's been years since I've seen one), but it's 19 on the larger socket. Pin 1 on these is the coil neg. terminal, so effectively 12 volts +.
