Auto box sluggish in forward gears

Hi all I have a 320i Automatic 1987 which is very sluggish in forward motion as if it's slipping. However plenty of power in reverse?? Has anyone experienced this?? Initially it was selecting no gears forward or backwards but have now done gearbox oil and filter change which have left me with reverse working well and sluggish forward drive. Please help !!
