87 320 wiper problem

it stopped raining for a bit today(honest)so i took my wiper motor out to clean up etc as on the wiki as my intermit didn,t work,normal and fast fine.however the silver disc that the contacts touch on mine is just rusted all the way round.am i correct in saying they still won,t work coz of the rust,as i,ve put it back and it don,t
