hi i am a new member to the forum i have a 318is and recently my release bearing went on my car. I waited until it got bad and and went to replace with new clutch. when removing the gearbox, just behind the fork (not sure what it is called) fell apart and was instructed i need a new gearbox or get old one repaired. bmw wanted £140 for part so started looking for second hand gearbox. does anyone know if e36 box will fit? i know there a slightly different engine, or will a 316 box fit? many thanks ben

box from the M40 engine will fit ok (318i, 316i). e36 box is different, bolts up but you'll have to fab the linkage as it's different. Ratios are also different iirc
