Hey, just wondering if a pair of 89 318 standard front coil springs are softer and less taught than a pair for a 325? As obviously the 318 has a smaller lighter engine than the 2.5l

Thanks.

You're thinking on the right lines - six-pot springs are sturdier than their four-pot counterparts.

If you're ever unsure, you can check the Wiki for more info:

Unfortunately, like most things in life, the situation isn't that simple!
BMW list twelve different front springs for a two door M40 1.8 E30, and six of these are also listed for various specs. of a 325 engined two door E30.
For instance, the standard spring for a 318i 2 door auto is the same as for a 325 manual.

 dam! There's me thinking there were some logistics involved :chuckle: prob is my 325 sport had already been lowered in the past at some point wen I say lowered I mean it would have been more pratical to move the surface of the earth closer to the bottom of the car, trouble is the drivers side front is sitting rather lower than the passenger side. And all I can think of is sump!!! So instead of getting new springs and faffing around chasing the bloody things across the country after I've removed the top mount nut. I was thinking of fitting a set of 316 or 318 stock struts with springs. In hope that the extra weight of the 6 pot would squish them down abit further than wat the spec'd engine for those springs would. Thus, being 'lowered' but at a sensible height. At the moment, worms hoops are twitching wen i drive it down the road.

In the end I popped the struts out today and found the drivers spring has basically been abused, a slinky would be more effect. So I've ordered some second hand 40mm springs and some new bump stops. So hopefully get them on next wkend. Which should raise it slightly, or at least level the front end.
