Evening all

The time has come, can't put off anymore, the rear shoes need changing on the 316i.

I've checked the wiki and mr Haynes. Anyone got any top tips before starting?

Got new shoes and drums.

Cheers in advance

Drums are a piece of p1$$

Probably worth taking a pic once you get the drum off so you can see how it all fits back together.
Refitting is the reverse of removal :D

Slacken the handbrake cables right off at the handle before you start, and adjust the shoes up properly before touching the adjusters at the handbrake lever when you've finished.

They could be rusty old scrap that could break on removal.

You'll need a good set of pliers/grips to get hold of the springs for removal/refitting.

Photo before you start will show you which way round they all go.

Best thing, apart from the correct special tools, is a length of thin, strong wire, hooked around the end of the spring, that you then pull, either by hand or with pliers.
I usually use a short piece of serrated wire intended for cutting through the sealant that bonds in windscreens.
