i have a 1989 cab which has 2 locks on the driver's door, one of them i think is factory immobiliser. Iv lost the key to that and would like to know is there a way the check if it still works with out the key. the car does have a after market Cat1 alarm.

If the second lock is not the immobiliser then what is it?

Its for the Original magnetic alarm. I would be very surprised if it still worked even if you had the key.

If you've lost the key, BMW maybe your only way.
The keys have a load of rings on them, that can be altered, matched to the alarm module in the door.

aceifty,

I have been been there, on my 1989 cabby resto, you may wish to check out the below thread
and the input Brian gave me:

I would personally remove the bmw immobiliser, removal is straight forward.

I visited my main dealer with the original key, the security tag and the code and got nothing but blank faces!...

remove it fella, else it risks causing you a series of problems if it goes wrong.
