Getting the circlip on on alternator bushes

I just changed the alternator bushes on my M3. It's hard enough getting the rubber bushes all the way in AND the central steel bush all the way through (used the long bolt, nut and some washers).

But can I get the washers on then the circlip to hold the alternator tight on the bush? NO

Any tips please?
