Gearbox Replacement

I want to change the 4 speed manual gearbox to a 5 speed in my 1985 316. Are all e30 gearboxes a straight swap? Also would anything else need swapped, clutch, gearstick?

How much appoximately would a garage charge to swap the gearbox?

Not all E30 gearboxes are the same.
All 1985 316 gearboxes are the same.

you will need a gearbox off an M10 engine. should be any 316/318i made before 1987, before the M40 change.
