the plastic cowling in front of the radiator had broken. the top part had cracked on both sides and it 'flopped' down, neatly sealing off the entire air inlet to the rad!!!!
NASTY!!!! it cost a handful of hoses, a new head (cracked mine after overheating) and a lump of labour and a weekend spent flushing oil out...
ho hum...
