Trying to get the ECU fault codes by following the process described below, but getting diddly squat, not even a '1444'; the engine check light just stares back blankly (well, not literally).

Anyone gone through this process and successfully got the codes? Any pointers?

Cheers

Where in the world are you? Unless you have a US spec. E30, you won't have the engine check light fitted.

Cheers MrMooore

So, I'm mistaking the flashing engine check light in the centre of the instrument cluster for something it isn't? That would explain a lot.

Is there no way of retrieving the fault codes on a european spec car?

The relevant wire for the engine light is usually present in the engine loom as far as the 20 pin C101 engine loom plug and socket, next to the fusebox. It's a plain grey wire, and you connect a 2.2W or so 12 volt bulb between it and 12 volts ignition live.
Whether the code test works or not, I've no idea.
