Replacing handbrake cable guides

I tried to remove the old cut handbrake cable from the car and I've come to the conclussion I messed it. I had a repair patch where the guide pipe is welded to the body, I must have welded it so that the pipe blew holes and weld has lodged inside not letting the cable be pulled through.

Anyone replace this pipe? What did you use? I reckon I'll chop mine up and tack on a new section and seal it with seam sealer then weld all round.
