Hello

The car '88 318i.

It has caught me quite a few times now. But the car just randomly cuts everynow and again. Its okay if ive got some momentum because it bump starts straight away but it sometimes takes a few minutes before key start works. For some reason the revs just seem to drop mainly only when changing gear but has happened when accelerator is down. Ive recently had a broken rotor arm and distributor replaced, injectors cleaned, and new gaskets etc.

But the problem seems to get worse and then not do it for a day, then gradually get worse again. I have been advised to check one of the relays in the engine bay (controls something to do with timing of the spark)? Could anyone give me a couple of pointers?

Thanks :)

When you say key start works, do you mean actually turns over or actually starts?

I suspect CPS sensor. . .

Can anyone suggest how to test if the boot lights are staying on with the boot shut?

It will turn over fine, just fails to fire for some reason. But it sometimes starts straight away, sometimes take a couple attempts and once it took 10 minutes. :s

What is this CPS sensor?

cheers

The Revs drop immediately to zero but the warning lights take a few seconds to come on and same with the steering losing power.
