Can anyone recommend where I can get the tool to do this job properly? I know people say just use big grips and such things but I'm going to be using the shocks again so really don't want to damage the shock or the collar since they're Bilstein B8s.

Are you on about the bit at the top to hold the shocker in?
If so a big pair of stilsons.

Try Ebay >>clicky<<.
Most of them aren't very long though so you can't get much leverage on them. I tried using one of these but ended up using stilsons in the end, they left a few marks on the collars but they were hardly noticeable.

No harm in wrapping a few layers of masking tape around the pistons if you want a 'belt and braces' type approach. It's better safe than sorry if you slip it might just save your shocks and just peels off after
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

So stilsons won't render the collars scrap and will get them tight ok on the new struts?

The Bilstein collars with my B4's IIRC were flat sided so you could potentially get a massive spanner on them to do them up.
Still ended up using Stillsons - they got the old ones off which were bastard tight without any real drama and they were just the OEM round ones with nothing to grip onto.

B6 & B8 collar nuts are different to the usual stuff.

Some cloth around the nut and some stilsons and you should be alright Dave.

This might help, a rather inventive way of doing it:

That method is already in the Wiki, and is for undoing the top mount nut, not the shock collar...
