Join the club....

I started out with the intention of building a tire smoking 316i....

Then realised the cost:power ratio... i.e. lots of cost.. not alot of power.

I used to hate it when people said to me "put a bigger engine in" but in reality... they are right.

In my opinion.. pipercross panel filter with a drilled airbox is all im doing to mine... cost me Ԛ£30 in total, i rekon its made a slight difference at higher revs, butn nothing too drastic.

Good luck though, if you find any useful mods, let me know :D

Same thing as a nova mate.

Why bother mincing around with a 1.2 engine when you can chuck in a C16xe out of a corsa, or a nova gte engine or an XE or LET etc.

Its more expensive to get power from a smaller engine and it means more revs normally which = less reliable.

Remember that the next time you're 3/4 of the way past an artic you're overtaking, and some pillock comes out of an unmarked turning or laybye, and turns towards you.

Playing devils advocate here but...

If you're hit head on overtaking it's usually (99% of the time) your fault. Poor observation is what it is. If you can't see far enough ahead to be sure it's safe you shouldn't be overtaking.

yeah you could do that, get you up to a mighty 120hp instead of 101hp maybe?

now that's why people swap engines

Waste of time and money when you can fit a bigger engine. I doubt that that lot would make much of a difference anyway.

Apart from the obvious induction/cam/exhaust mods, probably the best increase in performance on a 316 would be losing weight from the car. The E30 is heavy and the 316 is a simple 8 valve and not much of match for modern engines.
