Hi all,

I have just installed a new AFM to my ride E30 325i, I have Motronics 1.3 ECU.

Is it necessary I should remove the battery terminal and do a general ECU reset after installing a new AFM?

On the other hand, under what conditions do we need to reset the ECU for better performance of the car?

The last time I did reset was when I installed a zone chip, then when I installed a new Inlet Manifold and BBTB. Then again when I changed the Blue Temperature Sensor.

My mecahnic says it is rediculars !

Whats the verdict ?

cheers/haffeel

Pull the batt terminals for 30 mins and refit Haffeel M8, there are no stored diagnostic codes on your Motronic version , but it cant hurt

AFAIK, there's nothing on an E30 ECU that needs to be reset. It'll learn any new settings that are required by adapting the existing ones

Brian, does it means, the ECU will self learn as it goes along for the new settings by itself ? In other words technically no need any resetting.

But I can vouch, after I installed the BLUE sensor I took the car for a drive and it was behaving funny as ever, what I mean no change. Only after I did a ECU reset by removing the supply terminal from the battery and refit , the car behaved correctly.

TQ

AFAIK, yes. I've never "reset" an E30 ECU after working on a car, or seen anything in writing anywhere suggesting that you should.
Disconnecting the battery just loses the stored settings, rather than "resets" anything.
I.E. When you reset a modern computer you enter default values into its memory for each value of stored data. In the case of the E30 ECU it's just simple amnesia.

I would never go against your knowledge of the E30 engine but i have a query........
If the battery is diconnected and loses the original stored settings and when connected stores the new info then this tells me it has reset to take new info?

I understand "Reset" means back to original setting's but by disconnecting the battery would sort of give it a fresh memory to store new info?

Please correct me if this does'nt make sence 8)
