My sport kangaroo's a lot on part throttle, particularly when cold. Also when you start it up if its been sat overnight and stab the throttle it sort of misfires. Is this common? Are there any obvious things to check? I have already changed plugs and leads.....

This belongs in "tech help", so I'm moving it there.

Leads are unlikely to be the problem. Get a new distributor cap and rotor arm on it as a first step.

make sure ignition pickup sensor is in place, not hanging loose
it's the sensor on the front of the engine on the toothed crank wheel.

I once had a similar problem on my old 320i. After scratching my head for ages, I had to take it to the stealers. They couldnt diagnose it so they changed sh1t loads of stuff. Eventually it boiled down to a fault in the ECU. That was changed and it was as sweet as a nut!!

I might have a similar problem, I was told by the previous owner that my car has a road/race cam, but for some reason I have doubts and think it may just be running rough.
