Just had my sump changed after cracking the old one. It lost its oil after I parked up so fairly sure no damage done then. New sump is now on & the oil pressure light is staying on... anything obvious to check and should I be panicking?

Cheers

oil pressure or oil level light? i.e. the one in the check panel in the roof area, if it's that one it could be broken/tired.

As above if you changed the sump did you plug the level sender wiring back in?

I didn't change it, I left it with a mate who has access to a ramp. It's the oil pressure light on the dash.

Is the wire from the sender touching/shorting anywhere?

Pretty sure I didn't run it low. I parked up & came back 10mins later to find it sitting in a puddle of oil. It wasn't started again until after the sump was done. It was losing oil as there's a trail quite far down the road but the oil level light or pressure lights didn't come on.
The oil used was the same grade as before. Fingers crossed its a wire. Otherwise I guess I'm looking at a blocked pick up pipe or knackered oil pump :(
Don't really want to risk running it anymore (ran it for about a minute last night but killed it when the light didn't go out)

Ok just had a txt from the guy doing it (He's a tyre fitter in the tyre shop below my flat - not a mechanic :? I would normally do a job like this myself but don't have anywhere to do it at the moment) He say's it's all fine now and the lights out... it just needed resetting. This has got me slightly worried as it's not a service light or anything but directly related to the oil pressure in the engine.

He's taken the bulb out! wouldn't surprise me,

i bet the spindle that drives the oil pump is broken. I've never heard of a pump sh!tting itself but you did wack the sump. its my guess, sump off the replace this!

I've done it wacking a sump on a speed hump before although i didn't damage the sump

Yeah I will be checking the bulb lights up when the ignition is on.

thats for the oil level sensor for the overhead check panel. the pressure light cannot be reset it will just go out if it's at the correct pressure or stay on if not. the pressure sensor bolts onto the bottom of the block on the oil filter side, make sure this hasn't become unplugged if you suspect the chap has removed the oil bulb.
cheers

Well thanks for all your replies, it's back now & all seems fine. I dunno what he did but the light works, goes out when it's started & there's no leaks.
