kick down switch not working any more :(

hi everybody. i just installed a normal auto box in what used to be a switchable auto. i also installed the cable going to the throttle body but i cant workout how to connect the wires to the kickdown switch. the old gearbox had around 8 wires and the new one only has 2. i connected them to the loom colour to colour but still nothing. does anybody know what happends when you press the kick down switch? eg. does it send the gearbox 12v? or does it just connect the wires together? that way i can trace it to the new gearbox,
