'89 Toyota Corolla GTi-16 - track, hillclimb & sprint car (yeeha!)
'08 Buell XB12Ss - American engineering at it's 'best'... good fun though

if you could be fagged and they have the time, it would be good if you were able to take along your standard airbox and swap them over and see if there is any true gains to be had with a cone filter as most people write these off

Thats a good idea.

Is there much point in taking the headlight out unless youre going to leave it out all the time?
Ok it it might give you a little extra for the RR read out, but as soon as the car is back on the street with the light back in place, the advantage is lost.

Ok Id probably do the same thing just for a RR session but still, I had to ask

Have you got a heat shield around the cone filter? Might be worth making a temporary one up so you could try the cone filter with and without a heat shield.

make sure youve got some ear plugs...it gets mighty noisey standing next to a car doing 100mph inside a garage :D

call me stupid but how will taking the headlight out help on a RR?

There is no air movement... the car is (to all intents and purposes) stationary.... :?

Theres usually a big fan that blows air into the car, simulating it moving :o

All rolling roads should have a fan up front. Some have them under the car and over the engine too.

When just doing a "one off" power run, a cooling fan isn't really needed as the car is only run for approx 30 seconds. But if its a Turbo car, then a fan would also be needed for a power run, as air MUST pass through the intercooler for it to give power.

it's not a huge job to switch the boxes over so i might just do that.

a few have pointed out to me that taking the headlight out will proove nothing so I think i will leave it in and get a more "true" reading of how it is on the road.

I did read the other thread as you pointed out.

cheers peeps!

I had my Isuzu Pickup on a dyno, its a 2.6l 4 pot, WOW it was loud, i felt sorry for the car, those motors are NOT supposed to rev, got an extra 15NM out of it though!!

I have 86.5bhp at the wheels and 109.5bhp at the flywheel

and I have 131lb/ft of torque I'm pretty pleased.

My mate in his is (KnN and chip) 147bhp
and the e36 M3 evo was 236bhp!

what is your car bob? and how do they work out the flywheel figure, what is the measurement used or the method of calculating the transmission drain?

Most places Ive seen just use a rough percentage of the 'at the wheel' figure to calculate a flywheel figure, so its never going to be totally accurate.

That iS 147bhp must be a flywheel figure and the M3 Evo 236bhp must be at the wheels, unless it was very sick :?

the is was at flywheel and the M3 is fudged!

I have on my printout -

Estimated flywheel power(86.4+10)=96.4/0.88=109.5bhp@5560rpm

I cant make head nor tail of it but thats what it says.

Going by that then, the iS made about 119bhp at the wheels - I have no idea if thats about right.

That M3 figure must be at the wheels, it would be about 280bhp at the flywheel, which some might say is about right for an M3 Evo as they dont normally make the claimed 321bhp.
If the 236bhp is the flywheel figure it must be sha**ed 8O

yeah was about 119 or something similar.

the M3 is fudged, the lad was trying to say it was the stability control that screwed it up
