Afternoon all,

I want to upgrade my M30'd cabrio brakes to Keri's 280mm 4-pot kits under my 15" BBS.

Keri has been very helpful with advice, and information.

I have one concern left, one that those already using the brakes would be able to help with. I have heard many comments about squealing brakes when cold. My car is mainly a road car, with the occasional track day thrown in, and I really don't like having to live with this compromise of squealing brakes.

Does everyone get that squealing? How loud, and how consistent is it? Anyone managed to stop it?

Thanks all,

Martin.

Generally the squeal depends on the pads you use and occasionally the disc choice plays its part, stick with standard (ish) discs and use fast road uprated pads and you should be fine, the closer you get to race spec combo the more squeal you will get.

It's mainly a high friction pad thing to be honest. So Hawks and Performance Friction tend to be a bit noisey, where EBC Reds and DS2500 are normally ok.

I remember we had loads of trouble with the kit we did for the TVR Tasmin, but we did them with Hawk pads plus the Tasmin disc is literally a "bell" shape which didn't help!

Looky:

We cured it in the end by getting the discs grooved, which broke up the resonance. Think in terms of making a wine glass "sing" then imagine trying to do it while taking your finger off five times per revolution!

Anyway, back to the E30 - come on lads, are your WMS brakes noisey?

DS2500 are fine for road and not too bad for occasional track use.
