can someone please inform me which diff would be best to replace the standard one on a pre facelift 316 M10? would like the car to be a bit more responsive.

I thought (could be wrong) that the 316's used a 3.91 or 4.1 small case diff. Fitting something even shorter from the M40 powered 316i/318i would make your M10 very buzzy. Also the M10 cannot spin as quickly as an M40 which would make driving with a 4.27:1 or 4.45:1 diff a little less than fun.

If you want to make the car more responsive by a 318is, 318i, 320i or 325i.

Crawl under the car mate and at the rear of the diff, there should be a metal strip botled toit. You'll need to wire brush or sand it back though as it will be corroded like mine and everyone elses always are.

I just snapped mine off and sanded it back off the car...
