when i rev my e30 up to around 6000rpm (for example) and then let off the throttle with the car still in gear, the car seems to intermittently 'run on' and off and the needle on the mpg gauge drops down to around 30mpg on and off (in situ)? the car will kangaroo when this happens but only very slightly (not enough to annoy me). Surely this shows that when the revs are dropping down but the car is in gear, fuel is being burnt on and off constantly, or could it be something else?
It also idles nicely but only when it wants to, it sometimes hunts a bit, or will rev at around 1300rpm.
Its an e30 325i touring, engine is totally standard in every way. By the way its just been serviced and has been doing this since i bought it a year ago. Also had both blue and brown temperature sensors replaced, and all rubber hoses are not split (intake etc).
Any ideas?
Why.....

Do a search on the throttle position switch (TPS), may not be working right
