as above my rear seat bench and rear passenger side footwell get when in heavy rain.

luckily the car has no interior in it at the moment but i need to get this sorted.

Would the water be coming from the sunroof drains?

It could even be comming from the sunroof seal it self if the bench is wet. Id check this first

sunroof tray probably has colossal rot in it.

Remove the head lining at your peril

Get someone to give the car a good covering with a hosepipe and sit inside it to see if you can spot it dripping.

Mine did this in heavy rain and was traced to the fixing lugs which hold on the hockey stick shaped trim pieces at the back of the rear window. Why not pour water around the rear windows to check these, or open the sunroof and pour water into the tray.
