Has anyone fitted a sunroof seal off of a newer bmw where they are stuck to the roof instead of pushed onto the sunroof, as they are a lot cheaper than the e30 one. And I wouldn't be surprised if the standard seal is at least partly responsible for the rust problems.

AFAIK the "seal" on the E30 sunroof isn't a water tight seal anyway, the tray and drains are supposed to deal wit the water that enters. Rust is a problem when the water doesn't drain away properly.

Not saying that the idea of installing a water tight seal is a bad one though, just don't know how feasible it really is.
These are sensations as hard to forget as they are to ignore.....

It's just a draught excluder on an E30, obviously it does impede the amount of water allowed in to the tray. I have done some research in to alternatives and actually have spoken to various rubber extrusion suppliers but always drew a blank. I agree it is rediculously expensive as I have just finally bit the bullet.

As far as I know it's just a draught excluder on all of them it just newer bmw's have it stuck to the roof, if the stick on one's are the same thickness it should do the same job. The sunroof I'm replacing has a lot of rust under the seal, so eliminating the u bend of the e30 seal which could hold water might reduce the chance of the sunroof going rusty. It's also £20 vs £60.
